POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for the organization and coordination of the department(s) orientation program. Will develop and implement the initial training and staff development program for the assigned areas. The program also includes providing ongoing education for staff and education to meet client contractual specifications and regulatory requirements. Additionally, the Clinical Nurse Educator is responsible for assuring competency of all staff in assigned area(s) and that evidence of such competency is maintained.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
• Successful completion of a nursing education program which satisfied the licensing requirement of the Colorado State Board of Nursing.
• Masters Degree preferred but will consider applicant who commits to meeting degree requirements within 3 years or has comparable education experience.

Certification:
• CSPI certification required

Experience:
• At least 3 years as a SPI or CSPI.
• 3 years of teaching experience preferred

Required License:
• Registered Nurse in the state of Colorado.

Poison Information Provider (PIP)

The Metropolitan Chicago Healthcare Council, conveniently located near Union Station, is seeking a Poison Information Provider (PIP) for the evening shift in the Illinois Poison Center (IPC), (3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.) which works five days per week, every other weekend. Training will take place on the day shift, Monday through Friday.

The team member is responsible for answering and triaging initial poison exposure calls to the Illinois Poison Center (IPC) from the general public under the direct supervision of a Specialist Poison Information (SPI). In addition, the Poison Information Provider maintains accurate and complete patient records and enters all required documentation in the IPC data system concerning cases, as well as cases handled by other staff in the IPC. Other responsibilities include making follow-up poison exposure calls; the completion of accurate documentation; and providing poison prevention education and outreach through letters and telephone calls to the general public.

Qualifications: Candidate should be a graduate of a Pharmacy Technician Program, an EMT program or a LPN/LVN program with three years healthcare experience or have Bachelor's degree, preferably in chemistry or biology, with one year healthcare experience. Poison Center experience preferred. Proficient math, typing, verbal, written, and interpersonal skills required. Knowledge of Microsoft windows PC environment required and typing of 40 wpm.

Bilingual Spanish or Polish a plus.

Availability to work on rotating shifts including weekends and holidays required.

The FLORIDA POISON INFORMATION CENTER – TAMPA is recruiting for a full-time Specialist in Poison Information. The Florida Poison Information Center-Tampa was established in 1982, and was certified in 1984 by the AAPCC. As the first certified center in Florida, FPICT originally served the entire state. Now part of the Florida Poison Information Center Network, the Tampa center serves the Central and Southwest portions of Florida. It provides service to approximately 6 million residents, and hundreds of thousands of visitors. In 2006, the center handled 62,504 calls. It enjoys a strong relationship with the Florida Department of Health.

FPICT is located at Tampa General Hospital, an 818 bed acute care, not for profit hospital. Tampa General Hospital is a Level I trauma center. It is the primary teaching hospital for the University of South Florida Medical School and a clinical site for five nursing programs. The hospital has eleven disease specific certifications by the Joint Commission. It is also certified as a Magnet Hospital for Nursing Excellence. The Western NY Poison Center in Buffalo, NY seeks a dynamic, qualified individual for the position of full-time Managing Director. The Western NY Poison Center is the regional poison center serving the 8 counties of Western New York. Associate Medical Director/Emergency Department Physician

The FLORIDA POISON INFORMATION CENTER – TAMPA and TeamHealth are seeking a board-certified or board-eligible Medical Toxicologist/Emergency Medicine physician. The successful candidate will serve as Associate Medical Director of the Florida Poison Information Center- Tampa (0.25 FTE), and up to (0.75 FTE) as an Emergency Physician at Tampa General Hospital. TeamHealth provides the EM staffing for Tampa General Hospital. The duties of the Associate Medical Director will include quality assurance, overseeing education for residents in Emergency Medicine, medical students and PharmD students, as well as assisting in the development of an inpatient toxicology consulting service.

The Florida Poison Information Center-Tampa was established in 1982, and was certified in 1984 by the AAPCC. As the first certified center in Florida, FPICT originally served the entire state. Now part of the Florida Poison Information Center Network, the Tampa center serves the Central and Southwest portions of Florida. It provides service to approximately 6 million residents, and hundreds of thousands of visitors. In 2006, the center handled 62,504 calls. It enjoys a strong relationship with the Florida Department of Health. FPICT is located at Tampa General Hospital, an 818 bed acute care, not for profit hospital. Tampa General Hospital is a Level I trauma center. It is the primary teaching hospital for the University of South Florida Medical School and a clinical site for five nursing programs. The hospital has eleven disease specific certifications by the Joint Commission. It is also certified as a Magnet Hospital for Nursing Excellence.

The Palmetto Poison Center, located within the South Carolina College of Pharmacy – University of South Carolina campus, is seeking a faculty member who will serve as the Assistant Managing Director of the Palmetto Poison Center in collaboration with the Managing Director and Medical Director of this center. The operations of the Palmetto Poison Center include consulting with health care professionals, responding to toxicity-related inquiries from consumers, interacting with state and local government entities in response to exposures to hazardous materials incidents, statewide outreach poison education and prevention programs, managing personnel, and education of pharmacy students and medical residents. The candidate is expected to participate in didactic and experiential teaching, clinical practice, and research and scholarly activity. The CAROLINAS POISON CENTER has new positions available for Specialists in Poison Information and Certified Specialists in Poison Information.
The Carolinas Poison Center is a certified center serving all of North Carolina. Annual call volume is 100,000 plus. SPI’s work in coordination with four Board Certified Medical Toxicologists, one ABAT-Certified PharmD, a Medical Toxicology Fellow, a CSPI educator, and two public educators.
In addition, Emergency Medicine residents, PharmD students from two universities, and pharmacy residents rotate through the center. CLINICAL TOXICOLOGY FELLOWSHIP
The MARYLAND POISON CENTER, a division of the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science at the University of Maryland, School of Pharmacy, offers a two-year fellowship in clinical toxicology The goal of the fellowship is to train a Doctor of Pharmacy graduate to function in a professional, administrative and research capacity in a regional poison center, clinical toxicology service and/or academic environment. Major activities in the first year of the fellowship include service, teaching and management while a major component of the second year is research.
The fellow has the opportunity to attend local toxicology conferences as well as the North American Congress of Clinical Toxicology. Primary faculty for the fellowship include Wendy Klein-Schwartz, Pharm.D., M.P.H., Bruce Anderson, Pharm.D., ABAT and Suzanne Doyon, M.D., ACMT.

The REGIONAL CENTER FOR POISON CONTROL AND PREVENTION SERVING MASSACHUSETS AND RHODE ISLAND, located at Children's Hospital Boston, is currently accepting applications for Certified Specialists in Poison Information (CSPI). 

General Summary:
Receives and responds to telephone calls regarding actual or suspected poisoning episodes and recommends immediate treatment/intervention.
Provides general information on poison prevention and potential toxicity of drugs and other materials.
Performs administrative tasks

Principal Duties/Responsibilities:
Answers and documents telephone requests for information. Assesses nature and complexity of call and determines the depth of information to be exchanged. Accurately records and codes specified information as required.
Receives and responds to calls involving actual or suspected
poisoning exposures. Calms and reassures callers. Obtains detailed information regarding substance involved and victims' symptoms and condition. Researches and recommends course of action. Accurately records and codes specified information as required.
Contact health care providers and other callers for followup information on patient’s progress. Accurately records the information in the patient’s record
Attends continuing education courses and seminars to update knowledge. Shares observations and experience in the management of poisonings. Encouraged to participate in regional toxicology meetings. Conducts at least one regional lecture per year.
Assists in the orientation and training of new clinical staff as well as in teaching students, visitors and other groups in the general principles of toxicology/poison prevention and treatment. Responsible for recommendations given by PIPs.
Works within fixed shifts as assigned to meet the staffing needs of the Center. Works one or two overnight shifts per year as needed for sick call and vacations. Contributes to teamwork.
Encouraged to collaborate on research projects and publications. Assists in compiling data and statistics as directed for studies, questionnaires and research.
Participates in quality assurance and quality improvement initiatives or other administrative duties as assigned.

Minimum Knowledge and Skills required by the Job:
Work requires the level of knowledge typically acquired through completion of two years of occupationallyspecific education beyond high school in Nursing, Pharmacy or a closely related field and two years experience.
Work requires the analytical skills to resolve complex problems requiring the use of scientific, mathematical, or technical principles and indepth, experiencedbased knowledge.
Work requires communication skills in order to effectively deal with conflicting views or issues and mediate fair solutions, or welldeveloped writing skills.

Certification, Registration, or Licensure required by the Job:
